The Haughton Green Centre is run jointly by the Community Forum, made up of Volunteers from the local community, and the NHS Primary Care Trust.
The centre has been open to the community for many years but was taken over just before the Covid-19 Pandemic by Volunteer, Joanne, who is working with the community to offer lots of different groups for people to access. Joanne would like to say a massive thank you to all the volunteers who have helped support the centre over the years and says everyone is welcome from the community to run different groups at the centre or to join in with all the different groups on offer.
Prior to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the centre held events; a Spooky Trial for Halloween, a Christmas Crafts Workshop with a Grotto, Elves and lots more. Joanne and Martyn, Volunteers at the centre, are planning to start hosting these events again soon. They also hope to open a ‘Cycle Library’ in the future where anyone will be able to borrow a bike which will support people to become active and open up bike maintenance volunteer opportunities.
Action Together work closely with the centre and have supported to provide funding for Age Friendly Awards, Action Together Seed Fund, link Social Prescribing into the centre, provide volunteering opportunities and lots more. They have worked with the centre to change signings within the building to make the building more accessible for the community and making the centre a more age friendly building.
Action Together Community Development Worker for Denton, Audenshaw and Droylsden, is based at the centre each Tuesday, 10:00am – 2:00pm, alongside their Volunteer Support Officer and the Social Prescribing team, to support people to connect with what is happening in their area. The team can support with; local volunteering, funding for your ideas, making connections in the community, support for your community group and community wellbeing.
Action Together have most recently worked with the centre to set them up as a drop off point for this year’s Tameside Toy Appeal. Find out more about the Tameside Toy Appeal here.
