Be Well Health & Wellbeing Case study

I met with a lovely couple called Ron & Lesley Chesney who have been clients of ours for some time….

Ron was referred into Be Well Tameside by the Neuro team. He was recovering from surgery following having a Brain Tumour removed. He had received Physio as part of his recovery and the Neuro team now wanted him to receive support with lifestyle change as he was Type 2 Diabetic and taking Metformin for it. His first appointment was with Angela (Health & Wellbeing worker) in Hyde. Ron brought his lovely wife Lesley with him and Angela agreed to support them both together.

Angela says " When Ron came to me we discussed his current diet, which wasn’t very good considering he had Type 2 Diabetes. He treated himself to an ice-cream from the ice-cream van every evening and indulged in many chocolatey sweet treats. Neither he nor Lesley was particularly active so after setting some goals around swapping to healthier alternatives I referred them in to Live Active. At first Ron had his barriers up and wasn’t too keen on making changes but as a couple of weeks went by he started to notice the changes and started to relax and enjoy the journey. It was the same with Lesley, she was motivated from the start and they both lost 10KG each!! They both took up exercise with Live Active, even enjoying activities like Aquafit!!”

Ron adds “I started to accept it was working when I started to feel much more healthy, stronger both mentally and physically and generally fitter but the penny dropped fully when I was taken off Diabetic medication as my HbA1c had gone down and was now only in a Pre Diabetic range. Angela was great, she is very positive, motivating and encourages us every step of the way – I’d recommend Be Well Tameside to anyone!”

Lesley say’s “I had joined slimming clubs before but didn’t feel particularly comfortable in a group setting, this was more personal and tailored specifically to us – it really helped! I can now get in my lovely red coat that I could never wear before!”

Angela spoke fondly of them both, telling me “Both have been amazing, we have been on a right old journey together and they’ve overcome many obstacles. To see them both looking and feeling amazing is fabulous. I’m so proud of both of them!!”

We couldn’t agree more! Well done Ron & Lesley from everyone at Be Well Tameside!!
